Kalaya’s Destiny is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, community-based organization providing research and support for families experiencing the challenges of pregnancy, the perinatal period, and postpartum depression. We support the whole family structure, beginning with mothers, and serve women, birth people, and birthing persons throughout California.
Kalaya’s Destiny ® is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, community-based organization providing resources and referrals, along with our own peer-led support groups, for women, birth people, and birthing persons throughout the perinatal period, from pregnancy through postpartum. We also provide Enhanced Care Management (ECM) services, connecting families to the medical, behavioral, and social support they need. Our goal is to provide comprehensive support to the whole family, beginning with mothers, as they navigate early parenthood’s physical and emotional challenges.
Childbirth is a blissful experience for a parent and child; however, the reality can be quite different for millions of women, birth people, and birthing persons who experience postpartum depression. Birth events are stressful for most people and can include a wide spectrum of consequences and obstetric interventions. After childbirth, birthing parents are vulnerable to postpartum psychiatric disorders, including depression, anxiety, and attachment disorders. According to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study, about 1 in 10 women in the United States reported symptoms that suggest they experienced an episode of major depression in the last year.
Maternal depression can lead to serious health risks for both the parent and infant, yet many women, birth people, and birthing persons do not receive the care they need due to lack of access to services or stigma surrounding mental wellness issues. Kalaya’s Destiny is a nonprofit, community-based organization providing referrals, along with our own peer-led support groups and Enhanced Care Management (ECM) services, to families throughout California.
The need is stark, and deeply local:
Join us in our mission to provide comprehensive support to new mothers, helping them navigate early parenthood’s physical and emotional challenges.
